It’s 2020. I’m stuck in morning rush hour, listening to James Clear discuss his writing journey. I’m excited. But as the episode ends, I sigh. I can’t help but focus on the gap between us. Him with millions of readers. Me with ten. Writing felt like a silly pipedream. Seemed you were either a best seller or living in your mum’s basement. How wrong I was. Because Clear is just the tip of the iceberg of a much bigger movement. There are many entrepreneurial writers building their dream business. They are evidence of the truth: You do NOT need millions of readers to succeed.Because how do you define “being a writer”, Reader? For me, it’s spending my mornings on the craft. It’s getting paid to think. It’s serving a group of people who love what I write. Sure, we might not hit Clear’s pinnacle. But nor do we need to. Because thousands of people online will pay well to solve problems you’ve overcome. The key is becoming THE writer for them. To create an Audience of True Fans. To do this, you need three things:
