Last month, I had dinner with an online entrepreneur. We got talking about business models. I spoke through my courses and recent coaching programs. But it was my weekly newsletter that caught her eye. I explained that it had roughly 150 subscribers (at the time) and was great fun to write. If you don't know it, it's called the Magnetic Content Masterclass. I break down 5 social media posts per week to help entrepreneurs grow their business through writing. Selfishly, I use it to create all my content. So it’s a nice win-win. But as I talked through the offer, I realised I was being an idiot. Because I told her something I’ve been proud of for a year: “Yeah, I don’t even have to market it. The subscribers come naturally from my other product.” … “I don’t even have to market it” If an entrepreneur told me they had a product they love but didn’t market it, I would tell them they're being an idiot. That's like saying you have a Ferrari in the garage, but you don't drive it. But that's the problem with pride—it makes us stupid. So last week I took two steps to fix my balls up.
The result? $7730.50 revenue collected. $531.90 in MRR added. The collected revenue was split between the lifetime upgrade (76.30%) and two upsells (23.70%):
The lesson: The mistake I made is focusing on the ‘new’. But the desire for novelty creates blindspots. You’re overlooking smarter opportunities—what you already have in your business. Not just for offers, but ideas too. You have stuff that works. You just need to refine it. Then market it better (and more). Because not only will you make more money… But your audience gets more results. This means deeper relationships and a better reputation, which is crucial for success as a writer in such a noisy world. Reader, set aside an hour this week. Go for a walk. Reflect on these questions:
Small tweaks can turn linear results into exponential. Wise up. Don’t be an idiot like me. Kieran P.S. My plan for the Masterclass is to make it an outstanding product. How? For one, I’ve doubled the time I take to create it. Because you don’t wait for people to pay you to create something remarkable. Quality comes first. But double the time doesn’t mean more content. It’s more concise. More engaging. More useful. For two, I’ll promote it more. Like so: If you’re an entrepreneurial writer and want to build an excellent reputation in your niche, you’d love the masterclass. I find 5 social media posts from the previous month and give:
What’s more, you get access to the entire backlog of breakdowns—340 posts. And two bonus trainings. For the price, you won’t find a better deal. But don’t take my word for it. See why over 220+ entrepreneurs read the weekly report here: (The next edition will go out next Thursday.) |
